Maine case is 8M collected Oct 24 (earlier case was collected Oct 10).

Rumor has it that boy had multiple swine contacts. More should be in Maine weekly report.

Maine CDC confirms 2nd case

http://www.maine.gov/tools/whatsnew/att ... 18077&an=2

Maine confirmed a second case of swine origin novel influenza A virus. The first case was confirmed on October 17th, and the second case was confirmed October 31st. Both cases had multiple exposures to pigs. These cases are the 5th and 6th recognized cases of human infection with S-OtrH3N2 with the M segment gene from the pH1N1virus.

Note that Maine CDC says NOTHING about finding ANY SOIV in swine. These "swine exposure" reports are a joke. trH3N2 is clearly transmitting H2H (and more cases from Maine are expected).

Remarkably, some boards are still trying to determine if the two sets of sequences are from the same case since both samples were from an 8M from Maine

http://www.flutrackers.com/forum/showpo ... ostcount=8

However, Maine CDC has already confirmed the second case.

Moreover, it was VERY clear that these were two different cases.

The samples had two different names (A/Maine/06/2011 and A/Maine/07/2011)

Both sequences were direct

Both sequences were released 7 days after collection

The recent sequences were VERY short (less than 300 BP each)

The genes sequenced were unusual (HA, NP, MP)

Therefore, there was NO doubt that these were two different cases and release was RUSHED (in part because of the swine connection).

More babbling on the trH3N2 cases (and a clear lack of understaning of the significannce of this constellation ONLY appearing in humans - 7 times in 3 months)

I did ask Maine if they have found any SOIV in any swine and they said no (and were NOT surprised). No one in the world has reported finding in swine the trH3N2 contagion found in all 7 2011 human cases. Eventually it will be found, but because humans infected pigs.

In reality these are the 5th and 7th recognized cases. The 2nd case in Indiana, A/Indiana/11/2011, is the 6th recognized case. All seven have the same novel constellation of flu genes, which has never been reported in any swine anywhere.
