The CDC has released a new series of H1N1 sequences from recent cases. Included was A/Mexico/2208/2011, which was from a 36M and collected on March 15, 2011. Those demographics matched A/Mexico/InDRE1945/2011, which had D225N (36M collected in March, 2011). However, since the latest sequence from the CDC has a different number, A/Mexico/2208/2011, may be the index case for the outbreak (when the CDC sequenced an isolate from 29M, A/Mexico/InDRE1946/2011, it was designated A/Mexico/1946/2011 by the CDC).
A/Mexico/2208/2011 was isolated in eggs and it had D225G.
At the protein level, A/Mexico/2208/2011 matches A/Mexico/InDRE1945/2011, except it has K214E and D225G.
A/Mexico/InDRE1945/2011 was from a diect sequence of a nasopharyngeal swab, while A/Mexico/2208/2011 was an egg isolate.
