On Aug 11, 2010 WHO declared the H1N1 pandemic over. See link and story below. Now the same story is being run by AP, as if the 2010 story is a 2011 story.

Aug 11, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The World Health Organization has officially declared yesterday that the H1N1 flu pandemic is now over. The Director General of WHO, Margaret Chan said that the H1N1 flu has largely run its course. This news has been accepted by the world in a positive sense as the world is no longer in highest influenza alert level. Margaret Chan also added that the virus of swine flu has entered in “post-pandemic” phase which means that the swine flu attacks in the world has reduced to levels usually seen in seasonal influenza.

The Director-General also mentioned that the announcement of pandemic over does not mean that the H1N1 virus is destroyed. She said that the localized outbreaks of different magnitude may show significant level of H1N1 transmission. Margaret Chan declared a public health emergency of international concern on April 2009 when millions of people were affected by the infection of this virus. In UK, this infection took away 450 lives. The world is can now give a sigh of relief as it has advanced from phase-six pandemic alert to post pandemic period.

Margaret Chan warned that the health officials should monitor the infection rates as the virus does not die. Hence there is still a chance that it can come back again. H1N1 virus spread like epidemic and took about 18,449 lives in 214 countries in last one year. The virus was first named as swine flu but later WHO changed it to influenza H1N1. However, on April 12, 2010,in a review of the global response the scientists found out that the virus is less malignant than they have actually feared.

One of many re-runs:

WHO: Swine flu pandemic is over
'The new H1N1 virus has largely run its course'
Updated: Wednesday, 10 Aug 2011, 4:38 AM MDT
Published : Wednesday, 10 Aug 2011, 4:38 AM MDT

GENEVA (AP) — The World Health Organization is declaring an end to the global swine flu pandemic.

WHO's director general says the pandemic is over since "the new H1N1 virus has largely run its course."Dr. Margaret Chan said Wednesday the pandemic is considered over by WHO's emergency committee due to global factors and reports from several nations. She said she agrees with the committee but "this does not mean that the H1N1 virus has gone away."

Chan said she expects swine flu to now act like a seasonal flu virus and continue to circulate for some years to come.

Lawmakers in Europe have accused WHO of overstating the danger of swine flu and playing into the hands of the pharmaceutical industry, which earned millions from the outbreak.

Some of the babble boards are a bit confused.

This is an AP story published at MANY locations (including CBS and the Washington Post). The original story was August 11, 2010 (08/11/10). A dyslexic AP reporter changed it to August 10, 2011 (08/10/11) keeping the day of the quote (Wednesday) the same (but re-run one year after the fact).

MSNBC video on Dougherty gang capture has a crawl that says H1N1 has run its course, citing WHO statement from August 2010

Mainstream media remains out to lunch on pandemic H1N1.

It's good to know the pandemic is officially over.

I was getting worried for a while there with all Nimans scaremongering.

The thread was started because of the AP nonsense and reporting by babble boards, who remain as clueless as ever.

Reading 101: The FIRST post on this thread is the original 2010 post (which I dug up when I saw the AP nonsense about WHO declaring the pandemic over THIS year).

Reading 101, indeed; along with a good memory and copy/paste.

I'm almost positive that your original title _did not_ have anything about a "Rerun" in it. And I suspect you did some editing after you realized the rerun had been killed by the AP.

In fact, the way your initial posts read, it seemed as though you were using that to back up your second H1N1 pandemic.

Oh, wait. My mistake... the second pandemic is H3N2, the one with the pager alert?
