ATYPICAL PNEUMONIA - MEXICO: (CHIHUAHUA), REQUEST FOR INFORMATION
[Atypical pneumonia is a pneumonia that does not respond to the usual
antibiotic treatment. It can be caused by bacteria, in particular
_Mycoplasma pneumoniae_, _Chlamydia pneumoniae_, _Legionella
pneumophila_ and _Bordatella pertussis_, or viruses, including
influenza virus and other respiratory pathogens.

The description of the illness and the circumstances surrounding this
incident are too ill-defined to suggest a possible etiology for these
4 cases, one with fatal outcome. No information is provided to
substantiate the diagnosis of atypical pneumonia or the involvement of
a viral pathogen or any other infectious agent. Further information is
requested.

Ciudad Juarez is in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. It can be located
by accessing the HealthMap/ProMED-mail interactive map of Mexico at:

The above is a typical CP "analysis". Other stories described recommendations for vaccination, strongly suggesting that the cases were linked to H1N1, but CP comes up with a variety of bacterial agents and other textbook explanations, no reality required.

Chihuahua detected in 15 cases of H1N1 The Editors

Chihuahua, Chih., March 24 (adopted) .- The governor of Cesar Duarte Jaquez, and the owner of the state Health Department, Sergio Piña Marshall, announced the detection of fifteen cases of H1N1 influenza.
Accordingly, the State Administration issued an alert the population to avoid a rebound as the health crisis that was experienced in the country during 2009.

Duarte Jaquez said that of the 15 cases it is known, eight occurred in Ciudad Juárez - apparently one of which ended in death, "six in the state capital, and another in Cuauhtemoc, thus extending the measures the entire population to prevent the spread of the virus and the loss of human lives. The announcement came in the room balconies at the Government Palace, after they obtained the results of laboratory tests carried out yesterday to five cases in Ciudad Juarez, which has been positive reaction to the influenza A H1N1.
The governor Duarte said that while this situation requires caution, it would not itself affect the activities of schools, businesses, or social events.

However, it recommended that people who have symptoms such as sore throat, temperature over 38 degrees, sneezing, runny nose and headache, which is not self-medicate and that they visit health facilities even if not affiliated .

Last Sunday, an official of the Municipal Traffic Department (DGTM) died from what doctors described then as "atypical pneumonia."

Another element of the DGTM is in intensive care and at least three officers have symptoms, for this reason have been applied at least 250 shots at agents of that corporation.

CIUDAD JUAREZ, March 24 .- The Chihuahua state government, today declared an "epidemic alert" for a flu outbreak that has claimed the life of a policeman and two others infected and has to fifteen people under suspicion .
The governor of Chihuahua, Cesar Duarte, made on Thursday appealed to the community to take precautions, while the health sector implements prevention, early diagnosis and prompt handling the outbreak.
Duarte hue urgency, stating that "it is important to say that this is not a pandemic like the one that occurred two years ago, we are reporting an outbreak in which several cases have been confirmed and are cared for and receiving the necessary drugs ".
He said that those who experience symptoms of flu come to health centers to be given immediate attention and added that he has installed a panel of experts to monitor the situation and determine what action to take.
Duarte said he set up a security fence around the state of Chihuahua (the largest) to prevent the flu virus from spreading.
He added that by the time school and work activities will not be suspended.
Duarte said that one of the patients likely originates in the U.S. El Paso (Texas), who is suspected to have been the one who brought the virus to neighboring Ciudad Juárez.
According to information from the Department of Health of El Paso in 2010 were confirmed eight cases of influenza A, while in the first two months of this year were already 29 confirmed cases.
To prevent the spread of H1N1 virus, which appeared two years ago in Mexico with hundreds dead and sparked a worldwide alert, health officials began vaccinating from yesterday to 250 traffic police in Ciudad Juarez, after death was known a policeman and the spread of two colleagues.
In June last year, federal health officials lifted the health warning by influenza A, which from 2009 until that time had caused the deaths of nearly $ 300.
The argument was that "the circulation of the virus is minimal" and that since October 2009 there has been "a steady decline in mortality, morbidity and hospital demand" for influenza A.

Mexico and Chihuahua .- The Secretary of Health Jose Angel Cordova Villalobos, confirmed that there is an increase in cases infected with the H1N1 pandemic virus, going from 7 to 17 percent in just four weeks, according to the national epidemiological report influenza.

Yesterday, he said, confirmed the death of a traffic officer, Rodolfo Caballero, 27 in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, by this virus.

Cordova explained that sentinel units confirmed an outbreak "mild" flu in the country, which meant going from 99 cases in the week number eight, to 240 in the 11, in Chiapas, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Nuevo Leon, Campeche .

"The H1N1 virus has not disappeared completely. Its circulation has declined, although in recent weeks increased 17 percent. Particularly in the north country, and considering the population mobility, it is difficult for these outbreaks appear limited. There are 15 cases suggestive in Chihuahua, 12 are suspicious, two confirmed and one who died most likely from H1N1, "he said in an interview.

When asked if Mexico is facing a pandemic virus mutation, the federal official said: "I do not."

The death of the citizen who died in Ciudad Juárez is more related to a delay in medical attention, as happened at the beginning of April 2009 pandemic, he said.

"Immunity is about 70 percent in the country and the virus remains aggressive," he explained.

The Secretary of Health did not rule out the virus was imported from the U.S., "apparently still outbreaks in Texas."

On the possibility that the infection is transmitted to surrounding entities, said it staff moved the National Center of Epidemiological Surveillance and Disease Control, headed by Carlos Alvarez, and "probably raise an alert in other northern states to reinforcement of surveillance. "

In the case of Chihuahua, Cordova Villalobos said the governor, Cesar Duarte, we said that in the state and 280 000 people were vaccinated and have 100 thousand more in reserve, also thousand 500 kits for diagnosis, 15 000 doses of oseltamivir, The H1N1 antiviral curing.
