It is likely that this is Fujian H5N1.

More than forty-thousand turkeys were set to be slaughtered Tuesday at Kibbutz Rosh Tsurim in Gush Etzion after the deadly bird flu virus was discovered in one of the coops, Israel Radio reported.

Veterinary Doctor Michelle Blaish confirmed that the extermination will not be carried out in other chicken coops on the kibbutz because no abnormal activity was reported outside the one coop.

A bird flu outbreak has been reported in a turkey coop in the community of Rosh Tzurim in Gush Etzion. As a result of the outbreak, the Ministry of Health has instructed the HMOs and hospitals to increase their vigilance to identify cases of avian influenza in humans.

Despite the caution taken by the Ministry of Health, it stressed that no human infection has occurred in any outbreaks of avian flu in Israel to date. Anyone who was in close contact with the infected turkeys will be located by the Ministry of Health and receive prophylaxis.

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Palestinian officials OK'd Tuesday a decision to slaughter 15,000 poultry birds after an Avian Flu diagnosis in an Israeli settlement near Bethlehem.

Israeli inspectors notified Palestinian officials that birds in a Bethlehem-area settlement had been diagnosed with bird flu, sparking a series of inspections of local farms and studies of possible transmission patterns, acting Palestinian Minister of Agriculture Ismail Daiq told Ma'an.

Samples were collected from all local farms in a three kilometer radius from the epidemic site, Daiq added, but did not say definitively whether a case of the flu had been diagnosed in Palestinian farms.

The controlled bird slaughter was approved by a committee under the ministries of health and agriculture, and is set to take place Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

Do you think he tested negative because he never had H5N1, or because of administration of Tamiflu, or the swabs didn't find the virus in because it was deeper than where they took the sample?

Negative data is always suspect. Back in 2006 when Qinghai H5N1 moved into the area, one worker (in Israel) was hospitalized and was initially said to have tested positive, which was later changed to negative.

In general, I view negative data negatively.
