definition of epidemic rate per 100,000 very different in Spain than in UK ....

This is because the flu virus takes ten days hitting hard, as evidenced by recent data collected by the Sentinel Physician Network of the Community of Madrid and referenced to the first week of the year. If the last of 2010 ended with 91.78 cases of influenza per 100,000 population in 2011 has started with an incidence of 122.64 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, three times declared the epidemic threshold for this season 2010-2011 and is fixed in 40.54 cases.

Three days in the emergency room of Infanta Leonor

Federico M. M. Federico (Fictitious name), 57, was admitted on Sunday night in the hospital emergency Infanta Leonor de Vallecas suffering from "a history of influenza with pneumonia," his son said. I was told to enter, but on Wednesday, 72 hours later, the patient was still awaiting a bed in the emergency box. "They say you have 40 people in front, which are saturated due to the flu," he told his family.

So far, 16 people have died of swine flu (H1N1) and at least 350 severe flu cases have been hospitalized since the beginning of the season.

23 were vaccinated and 196 cases were unvaccinated. At least 1 vaccinated patient have died of pH1N1.

208,69 cases per 100.000 compared to 153,04 cases per 100.000 population in previous week.

--------------

This represents a big jump in severe cases in week-1 with 254 new severe cases that were hospitalized compared to only 23 new severe cases in previous week (52).

11 have died in current reporting period (week1)

Also, this represents another big jump in vaccinated cases with 23 cases vaccinated compared to 6 in previous week (52)

EPIDEMIOLOGY
Influenza A H1N1 is already on the UCI

More than a hundred cases of influenza H1N1 have been recorded so far this year in Spanish ICUs and is expected to rebound later this month. This time the health and know what they are facing and even dare to draw conclusions about the crisis last year, as seen in a seminar held at the College of Physicians of Barcelona. These include one that can significantly affect the evolution of the disease: the A H1N1 virus causes pneumonia in those at risk for lack of vaccination.

Does the vaccination status reflect this years seasonal vaccine (which includes H1N1)?
Do you know the vaccine uptake rate for the general population in Spain?

Yes.

We have 3 different flu vaccines this year;

-Chiromas

-Inflexal

-Levrinson

The chart below is from Madrid.

No, the table signals vaccine failure. The chart for vaccine uptake indicates that only 4% of those under 60 are vaccinated (in Madrid). Thus, if the vaccine provided no benefit, then 4% of those infected would have been vaccinated, which is what the data shows for several age groups under 60.

The figures showing that most infected were not vaccinated has to be viewed wuth informatio on the entire population. The VAST majority of those under 60 were not vaccinated, so the VAST majority of those infected should also not be vaccinated, even if the vaccine had no value.

As seen in the vaccine uptake table, the vast majority of those vaccinated are over 60 and these are NOT infected by H1N1 because of H1N1 immunity generated when they were much younger.
