HELSINKI, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- A middle-aged Finnish man died of A/H1N1 influenza Tuesday, marking the country's first fatal case of the disease in the new flu season, local media reported Wednesday.

The patient, in his 40s, had not been vaccinated againt the A/H1N1 flu virus before being taken to a hospital in the southern city of Kotka for treatment, according to the report.

Two other men suffering from the epidemic are receiving intensive care in the same hospital, the report said.

Meanwhile, some 20 patients have so far been treated for A/H1N1 influenza in the central hospital of the eastern region of South Karjala in January, three of whom received intensive care. According to the hospital, all the patients either were recovering or had recovered.

The country saw its first A/H1N1 flu case of the latest flu season in November, when a conscript at an armored brigade base in southern Finland was confirmed to have been infected with the virus.

A total of 48 confirmed cases of A/H1N1 flu had since been found in 14 army bases across the country, before the epidemic was effectively curbed in military bases at the beginning of this year.

HELSINKI, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- About 50 new A/H1N1 flu cases have been reported at a brigade base of the Finnish Defense Forces in Kajaani in central Finland, Finnish media reported Sunday.

According to the report, the patients have started to exhibit influenza symptoms since January 10, when this year's new conscripts reported for service. The results of laboratory test showed that the patients have contracted A/H1N1 flu virus, against which they had not been vaccinated before their military service.

Finland saw its first A/H1N1 flu case of the latest flu season last November, when a conscript at an armored brigade base in southern Finland was confirmed to have been infected with the virus.

The country's first A/H1N1 flu death in the new flu season was reported in Kotka in southern Finland on January 11.
