Flu cases continue to rise in Wales
Dec 29 2010

By Madeleine Brindley, WalesOnline

CASES of flu are continuing to rise in Wales as experts have warned the virus has not yet peaked.

Figures published tonight (Wednesday) by Public Health Wales show the number of people contacting their GP with flu-like symptoms increased to 92.14 per 100,000 population.

This is equivalent to more than 2,700 people, although the real number who are ill but haven't sought medical help will be much higher

Another tip is to advise those with prescriptions to ask a ‘flu friend’ to pick up their prescription for them so that patients with flu symptoms avoid going to busy pharmacies.

Pregnant women being urged to cut the risk and get flu jab

Dec 30 2010

by Linda Elias, Cynon Valley Leader

EXPERTS are urging pregnant women in Cynon Valley to have the seasonal flu jab to protect them against swine flu.

As cases of swine flu surge in Wales, with 28 people critically ill in hospital with the virus, pregnant women have been classed as an at-risk group because of the risk of developing serious complications..................

Well, Sky news may not be carrying the unfolding flu epidemic but it's made the third headline in the BBC news tonight which will be on shortly (8pm here). I think the TV media are finally waking up due to the figures released today by the RCGP's plus the children returning to school next week.

You are right Niman. If you want to lay blame for the low vaccine take up blame European politicians influencing WHO to abandon the Pandemic status.

Just watched the BBC newslot about the flu here. Brief interview with Clare Gerada, the Chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners in the UK who said we shouldn't be 'unduly concerned' and GP's are coping well. A brief convo with a GP,Dr McGuire, at a practice in Newcastle-upon-Tyne said that we were nowhere near the levels of a pandemic (even though he saw 400 in his practice on Bank Holiday Monday). That makes sense.

Apologies for the error. Amended as I thought Clare Gerada had said this (about a pandemic).

Confusion and disinformation are on the prevailing winds here. We can't handle the 'truth'.
