KS H1N1 Flu Toll Reaches 23

A 27-year-old northeast Kansas woman who had swine flu has died, bringing to 23 the number of Kansans who have died after contracting the virus. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment says the woman had an underlying health condition that made her more susceptible to swine flu complications. The agency reported the death today (MON). State officials are providing no other details, except to say the woman was not from the Topeka or Kansas City metropolitan areas. The department said her swine flu case was confirmed in October and her death was reported to the state last week. Swine flu has been reported in 91 of Kansas's 105 counties since late April.

A 49-year-old Topeka area man has died from infection with the H1N1 flu virus.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment said the man had underlying health conditions that placed him at greater risk. The infection was confirmed on Nov. 23 and his death was reported to KDHE on Tuesday.

The death brings the number of confirmed Kansas deaths from the H1N1 virus to 24.

Kansas health department reports 27th death statewide from H1N1, encourages vaccination

A 78-year-old woman from the Wichita area has died from the H1N1 virus. Kansas Department of Health and Environment noted the woman had underlying health conditions that placed her at greater risk for death.

So far, 27 people in Kansas have died from H1N1. Between Oct. 10 and Jan. 16, 521 people died from influenza or pneumonia, and 19 died from H1N1.

Over those three months, 6,671 people died from all causes.

“Flu activity normally peaks in February or March in Kansas, and it is possible that a similar pattern will occur this year with H1N1.” s

Weren't the elderly among the last on the list to receive the H1N1 vaccine? Is it possible that their receipt of the vaccine now might be causing the deaths they are reporting? It sure did cause a lot of healthy people I know to feel sick for a week or so after they took it.
