Always hungry for good information and usually coming across it in a random fashion, I was wondering if there was any interest in creating a thread as a cache for links?

Here are a few links I found particularly useful some of which were contributed by forum members and others I came across.

WHITE PAPER ON NOVEL H1N1 John M. Barry
http://esd.mit.edu/wps/2009/esd-wp-2009-07-072709.pdf

Virology Blog by Vincent Racaniello
-- contains video lectures, podcasts, and a blog
http://www.virology.ws/

Pandemic Influenza Publications
http://www.pandemicinfluenza.org/publications.html

The Research Channel
-- this particular link is Palese doing a talk
http://www.researchchannel.org/prog/displayevent.aspx?fID=567&rID=26805

Currently I am looking for information about virus clades and have had difficulty finding a good source. I have the impression a clade is one of a number of general configurations circulating in the virus population that contribute to its evolution. Could be off but looking for an explanation.

As to your cladistics question:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clade
Quote:
A clade (from ancient Greek κλάδος, klados, "branch") is a term used in modern biological systematics, the scientific classification of living and fossil organisms, to describe a monophyletic group, defined as a group consisting of a single common ancestor and all its descendants.[note 1][1]
The study of clades is called cladistics.
The common ancestor of any group of reasonable size and most of that ancestor's descendants will usually be long extinct.[note 2] It is not necessary for a clade to contain any living representatives.

Unfortunately I don't know where to find a cladogram for the pandemic virus.

thx but I have already been there (first place I looked-lol) and was looking for something a bit more comprehensive. Trying to get a better understanding of what Dr. Niman is saying in regards to them.

If you do find a better accessible article please post it. You could certainly create a thread in the genetics forum.

Do we want to make this thread sticky?
