Commission members said that students will be excused from school only if they have the flu-like symptoms.

Second Swine Flu Casualty in Macedonia
Sinisa-Jakov Marusic

27 November 2009 Macedonia's Health Ministry confirmed on Thursday that a 77 years-old man is the country’s second swine flu related death.

He died three days ago at the Skopje Clinic for Anesthesia and Intensive Care, the ministry said noting that only after conducting tests was the cause of death confirmed to be swine flu.

The patient had a heart disease and was admitted on 21 November, the ministry said. He died two days after.

A 32-years old man who died on 19 November was the first swine flu victim in Macedonia.

At the Skopje based Infectious Disease Clinic, a 55-year old woman is still fighting for her life. Several other patients, most of whom had previous health conditions, are also in the intensive care unit.

Health officials say that the number of infected since the outbreak of the potentially deadly influenza is slowly reaching 1000. However they point out that some 90 per cent of them have already recovered.

Doctors warn that the actual number of infected might be considerably higher since not all infected reported to clinics and were registered by the state.

Swine Flu claims Third Victim in Macedonia
28 November 2009

Another person has died due to complications caused by the A/H1N1 flu virus, director of the Clinic for Infectious Diseases Zvonko Milenkovic said on Saturday.

Dr. Milenkovic informed that a 34-year old person was admitted to the clinic with a deteriorating health condition. - Due to complications caused by progressive bronchopneumonia, the person died within less than 60 hours, said the doctor.

This is the third swine flu fatality in Macedonia following the deaths of two men aged 32 and 77 years respectively.

Chairwoman of the Pandemic Flu Committee Jovanka Kostovska said that 2,600 people have been tested positive for H1N1 flu so far. - This figure is not worrisome, but it is expected to increase, she added.

Minister of Health Bujar Osmani said Macedonia was one of the first countries in the region to launch vaccination of health workers, adding that as of next week people of risky groups would be vaccinated.

- There's plenty of vaccines for all those who will come voluntarily to be vaccinated. We ask the public not to run a campaign against vaccination, because it successfully tackles the consequences. We encourage vaccination and urge the citizens to be vaccinated, stressed Osmani.

The first 20,000 vaccines from Swiss company Baxter are due to arrive this coming week.
