The Milan Jovanovic Batut public health institute today released data provided by the national reference laboratory for respiratory viruses at the Torlak Institute of Immunology and Virology, according to which the number of influenza A H1N1 patients in Serbia is now 131, of which 69 contracted the virus abroad.

According to the statement cases were registered in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Sombor, Nis, Srbobran, Nova Pazova, Sabac, Subotica, Kucevo, Kragujevac, Pancevo, Stara Pazova, Sremska Mitrovica, Loznica, Kraljevo, Kikinda, Cacak, Cuprija, Zrenjanin ,Vrsac, Prokuplje and Trstenik.

BELGRADE - The first death caused by influenza A (H1N1) has been registered in Serbia, a 46 year old woman who was hospitalized in early October in a serious condition, said Wednesday the agency Beta.

This person, from Kraljevo (center), "died today (Wednesday) in the Clinical Center of Kragujevac sequelae of novel influenza and is the first victim of this virus in Serbia," said a doctor that center, Zoran Todorovic, the Beta news agency.

BELGRADE - A second victim of the influenza virus H1N1 has been registered in Serbia, a woman died when she was transported to a hospital in Belgrade, reported Tuesday the state TV Serbia (RTS).

The woman, aged 32, was from the area of Krusevac (center), said the RTS. She developed symptoms of H1N1 avian October 28.

Hospitalized initially in Krusevac, she died during his transfer to Belgrade.

The first victim, also a woman, aged 46, had died of H1N1 October 21. Hometown Kraljevo (center), she was hospitalized in early October in a serious condition.

The Serbian authorities have identified so far in the country nearly 169 people affected by the H1N1 flu since the first case of infection by the disease found in June, according to the Serbian Institute for Public Health.

Moreover, the Serbian Minister of Education, Zarko Obradovic, decided Tuesday to extend for two days the school holidays in Serbia, following an increase in the number of infections.

"I decided this morning to extend the school holidays" for two days, until November 11, Obradovic said in an interview on TV B92.

Many cases have been detected in children of school age. A school military in Belgrade was closed due to the epidemic.

Belgrade. Serbia is close to declaring national flu epidemic, Inpress online news edition reports.
There are 244 cases of people infected with the swine flu virus and the number is increasing. Thus, we are very close to announcing flu epidemic throughout the entire country on Tuesday (November 10), Predrag Kon, head of the expert’s team on pandemic, announced for the Serbian television.
There are 5 death case registered in Serbia so far. On Saturday, Serbian Healthcare Minister said that if the spreading of the flu virus continues, authorities are to decide on November 9 whether to declare national epidemic like Bulgaria already did, Alfa television says.
