They :shock: banned you from flutrackers.com? Just for linking to us? :twisted: I really think that we share a common goal of getting information out about this pandemic. I can't understand why there is enough animosity that they would ban serious, long term posters for providing an informative link...I think everybody on that board should really examine their motives in taking that kind of action. Hey, how do you spell "censorship"?

Its making me regret my donation, and rethink the time I spend there.

[mods, please don't ban me for 30 days for providing a link to a competitive board]

I would urge us to make peace. It is not about hits. We both want the same thing: real time information to people who may be affected by this disease. We should not be competitors, we should be collaborators. We should be working together to provide information to people who need it. If we are both working for that common goal, I don't understand why we are at odds. We are both spending a lot of time providing a public service to the world. Why are we wasting time and discouraging visitors squabbling over minor issues?

Just gotta add this last shot...
Any board that would ban Niman is really out of touch with reality.

Treyfish posted up in public (in response to a query from me as to the meaning of your status showing as "retired") that you had been banned for 30 days and indicated to me in a pm that the subject was allowed to be discussed and a discussion thread was created (presumably by a mod because it involved splitting a thread). Almost immediately after this the thread got pulled and replaced with a message from Florida1 suggesting you are on vacation.

Default Posters' Status on FluTrackers
Please do not make posts asking about a poster's status with FluTrackers.

It is our policy not to comment. Any comments will be removed.

Sometimes posters are on vacation from FluTrackers.

We welcome them back.

However, we will enforce our standards of discussion. We want a positive emotional climate here. A place that is "safe" to post - free of bashing, no violence, political fighting, religious conflicts.

We believe in renewal and forgiveness. We make mistakes, but we try to learn and improve what we are doing here each day. The first step in forgiveness is to accept your limitations and forgive yourself.

Everyday is a new chance. A chance to right the wrongs of yesterday and to walk a new path for tomorrow.

"...Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury,pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy....

to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;"

Thank you to everyone who is helping us here.

Florida1 obviously feels genuinely hurt but personally I think they might be better to take a deep breath and take in more of the message from their own quotes (above). Hopefully I don't get banned from there for posting this.

It has put a very bad taste in my mouth. My last contribution was yesterday morning before learning of the banning (which was done, as far as I can tell, for no justifiable reason), and that was to give a hattip to someone over here as I posted an article. I have to wonder if my posting privs have been revoked, but I don't intend to find out for the time being. It has gotten beyond petty.

What was the rationale that Sharon used to ban you regarding this particular commentary? It doesn't seem to me to be significantly different from other commentaries that you have written.

Treyfish posted a news item at FT. Dr Niman replied in the thread and posted a link to a new commentary of his on the subject. A few comments were made by FT seniors that he did not say "Hat tip to Treyfish" (although others argued that the fact that Niman posted the link in Treyfish's thread was an obvious implicit hat-tip). However Florida1 declared "case closed" and Niman's status changed to "retired". When this was queried Treyfish said Niman had been banned for 30 days but that the matter could be discussed but appears to have been over-ruled by Florida1.

Florida1 had previously said that Niman was being monitored closely and was under a warning (Including being banned from using the word "Please" to start postings). It certainly appeared to me that an excuse was being looked for to ban Niman and I was expecting it to happen for a probably relatively trivial reason - and it did.

I have had several posts of mine (nothing to do with Niman) edited or in one case completely removed over at FT when they contained what I considered to be possibly key info relating to the spread of swine flu at UK music festivals. Florida1 said I was "bashing festival goers" (thus breaking policy) but didn't seem to see that she was "bashing" me (a new member at the time) unjustifiably (in my opinion) with that comment. Others in the UK commented in support of me and their comments were pulled as well - made me wonder what else gets removed before I see it.

I suspect I could be on thin ice over at FT.

The 30 day suspension was without explanation, but the timing suggested it was related to the commentary (and link). I had seen Treyfish's post on resistance in Vietnam. It was a wire service (AFP) post in Vietnamese that was in wide circulation in Vietnam. There had been earlier reports on Vietnamese patients who continued to shed H1N1, even though they had been on Tamiflu for an extended period of time, so I asked if the Monday report was on the same patients and spent about an hour going through Vietnamese reports, but didn't finding anything other than the AFP report, which was in many papers in Vietnam (which came up again and again on my google seach). I then posted the translated AFP report on the Tamiflu resistance thread here and wrote a commentary that linked to the thread here.

When I posted the link to the commentary, some commentators at flutrackers thought I should have given Treyfish a hat tip. I agreed and did post on flutrackers that I appreciated the hard work of posters on both sites. I also added a hat tip to Treyfish

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=326&start=1

Four minutes later I received a notice of a 30 day suspension, without explanation.
