EDGEWOOD, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky Health Department has confirmed another death associated with the swine flu H1N1 in a Boone County male in his 20s.

The individual did not have any underlying conditions prior to his death, according to the information provided to the Health Department.

The death reported Monday is the third reported in the region and the 20th in the state.

“The loss of a young person’s life is tragic, and we extend our sympathies to the individual’s family,” said Steven R. Katkowsky, M.D., District Director of Health. “This loss stresses the fact that swine flu can be serious and steps must be taken to prevent the illness.”

Additional details are now available for the Health Department’s upcoming swine flu vaccination clinic, to be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 11, at the Bank of Kentucky Center, 500 Nunn Drive, Highland Heights, Ky.

“The Bank of Kentucky event is a huge undertaking, and we ask for the public’s assistance in making the clinic run smoothly,” said Katkowsky.

The Northern Kentucky Health Department has confirmed another death associated with the H1N1 virus, also known as the swine flu.

Health officials say the case involved a Boone County woman in her 30's. She had underlying health conditions prior to her death, according to the health department. Her name has not been released.

She is the fifth person in the Northern Kentucky region to die from complications of the swine flu.

Previously, deaths were reported in residents of Kenton County (2), Boone County (1) and Pendleton County (1). The Kentucky Department for Public Health is reporting a total of 29 deaths associated with swine flu, not including the one announced Thursday.

"Our thoughts go out to the individual's family," said Steven R. Katkowsky, M.D., District Director of Health. "Swine flu is a serious illness, and it is tragic that another local family must deal with a loss related to the virus."
