A man in his 70-years who were admitted to hospital Telemark (ST) with swine influenza is dead. - He had several serious chronic diseases, so we will probably never get 100 percent response to the swine flu was the crucial reason why he died, "said clinic manager Per Urdahl at ST.

Norway Hogs Infected with H1N1 Virus
Pork news source | Thursday, October 15, 2009

Norwegian veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of the Type A H1N1 virus in swine, reports ThePigSite.

An immediate notification was sent to the World Organization for Animal Health on Monday stating that this is an emerging disease in the country. According to the report, the disease, so far, has made only a small zoonotic impact.

The disease is a result of contact with an infected person. The report states that the farmer of the herd had been sick with flu-like symptoms for some time and last week the diagnosis of pandemic flu (Type A H1N1/2009) was confirmed. The infection seems to have been introduced in the herd from humans to the pigs in the farrowing unit.

Several measures are being applied to curb the spread of the disease.

(This is basically the same message as what H1N1 posted below in French.)

Norway recommends swine flu shots for entire population after spike in infections

OSLO, Norway — Norway's Health Ministry has recommended that its entire population be vaccinated against swine flu after a recent spike in infections.

Health Minister Anne-Grete Stroem-Erichsen announced Friday that the government is recommending that Norway's 4.8 million people, except children under 6 and pregnant women in the first trimester, receive the vaccine. It will be available to the general public by mid-November

Public health authorities estimate "more than 100,000 Norwegians" are or have been infected this year. Ten have died.
