So are these fatal cases (same situation in Belarus) near the Ukraine border due to cases spilling over, or just increased surveillance in areas bordering Ukraine?

For the moment the investigation is in progress. The Ministry of Health officials haven't told their point of view. I think they will infirm that the cause of the death was A/H1N1, or not the direct cause. I will keep you in touch with the situation if I find out more about the case.

94 swine flu infection cases have been confirmed in Romania during the last 24 hours, taking the numbers of the patients affected by the new flu to 1,001, according to the Romanian Health Ministry. Three schools shut down for a week.

Most of the patients tested positive for swine flu over the last 24 hours were registered in Bucharest - 18, Iasi (North-East) - 10, Dolj (South) - 9 and Suceava (East) - 9.

There were seven new cases in Prahova (South), five in Vaslui (East), four in Alba (Central-West), Arad (West), Galati (East) and Harghita (Central-North), three in Bacau (East), Constanta (South-East), Mehedinti (South-West), Teleorman (South) and Timis (West) and two in Arges (South), Brasov (Central), Dambovita (South), Sibiu (Central), Mures (Central), and one case in Hunedoara (Central-West) and in Ilfov (South-East).

Three high schools in Bucharest have been closed down for a week, starting on Tuesday, due to the numerous swine flu cases: Mihai Viteazul National College, Goethe German College and Marin Preda High School, according to Romanian TV channel Antena 3. On Monday, Matei Basarab High School closed down for a week as well, also in the Capital.

In the beginning of the academic year, the Health Ministry decided that all schools recording two cases of swine flu in different classes will be shut down for a week, to avoid the spread of the A H1N1 virus.

The Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry confirmed on Thursday that a Romanian citizen infected with the new flu died in Austria. In Romania, 89 cases of swine flu infections were recorded during the last 24 hours, the Romanian Health Ministry announced.

The Romanian citizen who died on Tuesday had been in Austria since March this year. Until 3 pm, the Romanian Embassy from Wien has not been contacted by any family member of the deceased to request assistance. A man of Romanian origin died on Tuesday in Austria after a heart attack that most probably followed complications generated by the AH1N1 infection, according to Deutsche Presse Agentur.

The man aged 39 died in the Salzburg province, according to a medical staff, Christoph Koenig. So far, very few Austrians developed serious complications after contacting the swine flu, according to the local Health Ministry. An 11-year old girl died last week in Innsbruck, where she had been transferred for receiving proper treatment. The Austrian Health Ministry announced 964 swine flu cases so far, but local doctors claim the number is much larger, estimating over 10,000 cases in Wien only.

In Romania, 89 cases of swine flu infections were recorded during the last 24 hours, the Romanian health Ministry announced. The total number of new flu cases is now 1,146. Most of the new patients are in Botosani (North-East) -37, followed by Bucharest -30 and Arges (South) -4. Constanta (South-East), Dolj (South), Harghita (central), Iasi (North-East), Prahova (south-Central), Teleorman (South-East) and Ilfov (South-East) recorded two cases each, and Covasna, Giurgiu, Hunedoara (Central-West) and Timis (West), one case each.

Additionally, In Bucharest, Pitesti (South), Botosani and Teleorman, the courses have been suspended for several groups of students in various high schools, after several pupils were diagnosed with swine flu.
