Mortality from influenza and SARS in the country 12 times smaller than in the past epidsezoni. This was stressed by Minister of Health of Ukraine Illya Yemets.

Incidence rate of influenza and SARS are substantially below the epidemic threshold.

In Ukraine 13 th week of 2011 marked a sharp decline in the incidence of influenza and SARS, said the head of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of Ukraine Serhiy Ryzhenko. In all areas of Ukraine sickness rate decreased from 11 to 35% and amounts to 43.14 per 10 thousand population.

According to data from the beginning of rising incidence of influenza and SARS in Ukraine sick 5 million 729 thousand 301 people.

For 40 weeks in 2011 in all target cities morbidity of influenza and ARI were below the epidemic threshold (from - 2.74% in Vinnitsa to - 83.19% in Kharkiv).

Total last week in the target cities were registered 41,957 patients with acute respiratory viral infection, hospitalized 546 people (1.3% of ill) among hospitalized 92.67% are children under the age of 17 years. The incidence rate of influenza and ARI is 42.89 cases per 10 thousand population by 1.9% compared to the previous week.

Among the pediatric population recorded 27,107 cases of influenza and SARS (64.61% among all diseased), which is 1.6% less than last week. The share of children who become ill with influenza and ARI by age categories are: one year - 6.99%, 1-4 years - 40.36%, 5-9 years - 26.07% 10-14 years - 15 90%, 15-17 years - 10.69%.

During the reporting period in the target cities deaths among patients with influenza and SARS are not registered, as well as for the previous week.

Overall, the epidemic situation of the incidence of influenza and ARI in 10 target cities corresponds to the average level of incidence for the respective seasons.

State Agency of Ukraine for drugs is conducted weekly monitoring of the presence of influenza medicines, vaccines to prevent seasonal flu, medical products in the pharmaceutical market of Ukraine.

As of 14.10.2011 the total number of influenza drugs and medical products distributors, is 18,885,506 packages, including: antibiotics 4618164 packaging 2284010 antipyretic medicines packaging, antitussive and mucolytic 1,956,600 of packaging, packaging dekonhistantiv 2,481,245, 889,651 packages of antihistamines , 6976 oseltamivir packaging, normal human immunoglobulin with high content of influenza antibodies 4516 packages, 930,041 packages of antiviral agents, interferon, 21,840 packages of herbal adaptogens 186,118 package, multivitamin preparations and ascorbic acid 745 595 packaging, medical products 3,562,554 units. Total number of influenza drugs, which are planned to produce up to March 2012 is 55,264,379 packages, Medical Devices 7.4 million units.; Influenza immunobiological preparations 13,250 packages.

For 41 weeks in 2011 the number vaccinated against influenza was 1,493 persons, the total number vaccinated against influenza was epidsezon 1494 - 0.003% of the population of Ukraine.

Control cities (Vinnitsa, Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhya, Kyiv, Lviv, Odessa, Simferopol, Kharkov, Chernigov) located in different regions and reflect the epidemiological situation in the whole country.

"We expect a seasonal influenza A (H3N2). Epidemics due to this type of virus - a common phenomenon: more than half of the epidemic in our country caused just such a subtype of the virus. But the strain is new. It's called A/Pert/16/2009. And it is new not only for us but also for South-East Europe and Russia. Strain A / Perth has been in North America and in Britain. And in Europe last season, it is extremely rare and has not reached to the Ukraine. We have identified only one such virus. Therefore, our population has no immunity to it, which means that people will get sick more often, "- said Mironenko.

She also reported that the new flu will cause more complications, and that from it are already preparing a vaccine.

"Viruses A (H3N2) epidemic caused more intense than usual, and provoke more complications, especially in the elderly. And most often complications of the respiratory system - bronchitis and pneumonia. But for the elderly pneumonia is quite dangerous. This is bad news. A good - that has already begun production of vaccines for seasonal flu and this strain has entered into their composition. So the main advice for the protection - should be vaccinated, "- warned Mironenko.

Recall the most massive in the last decade in Ukraine was an epidemic of 2009-2010.
