Dingos quote

''Thanks for that. It seems you think that this new pool could mean resistance to both Relenza and Tamiflu, but logically you're studying Tamiflu because Relenza is hardly used.''

Dingo

Again you are a fool . NS1 is not saying this.

As I have already told you all Antivirals can become resistant to particular virus changes as it tries to stay ahead of the antiviral and keep infecting.

What does he mean by usage dynamics of Tamiflu and Relenza? Go back and read it.

And NS1 didn't rule out Relenza resitance developing at all. Quite the opposite.

2 DIE IN HOSPITAL FROM SUSPECTED H1N1 FLU

TWO people have died in hospital over the Christmas holiday believed to be from the suspected H1N1 swine flu virus.

One woman in her 70′ s died in the critical care unit at St Mary’s Hospital on Wednesday and another died on new years eve.

Domestic cleaning staff were briefed today when they started their shifts and have been told to wear face masks and full protective clothing when entering infected areas.

In mid December 13 of the 17 Island GP practices on the Island reported having only issued 1 prescription for Tamiflu between them during the preceeding month and at the hospital in the Beacon Centre they had only issued 1 prescription for Tamiflu – and that to a person from the mainland.

A spokeswoman for St Marys Hospitals said “We have had a number of admissions into the hospital but was unable to confirm how many cases involved swine flu.”

TWELVE people have died after contracting flu in Wales, the Assembly Government tonight said. And flu has played a contributing factor in a further 45 deaths since October, figures have revealed.

The figures – the first to be issued by the Assembly Government since the end of the swine flu pandemic – come as doctors in Wales have been given permission to use the 2009 swine flu jab to vaccinate patients.

It follows shortages of the seasonal flu vaccine in parts of Wales, including the nation’s largest hospital – University Hospital of Wales, in Cardiff.

The figures also show there are 71 people with flu being treated in critical care beds in Wales – 21 of these patients are aged between six and 15.

And that's just Wales. Shows that the HPA figures are being manipulated so the population dont panic. Fair enough I suppose. Its just sad so many are dying when they dont have to.

A WEARSIDE man has died of swine flu at the age of just 28.

Carl Winspear’s sudden death comes as concerns grow about the shortage of vaccines available for those with underlying medical conditions.

Carl’s devastated mum, Elaine, 53, is stuck on a waiting list after she was advised to get the jab after her son’s death.

Carl, from Concord, Washington, was severely disabled, suffering from epilepsy and cerebral palsy, and had been in and out of hospital all his life.

updated map of flu levels across UK - from
click on column heading to resort data by preferred column
Produced by Nottingham University's Division of Primary Care

http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog ... lu-data-uk

Swine flu cases in the UK - week ending 2 January 2011. Click image for full graphic.

We have the most local data available on the outbreak - collected by GPs in their surgeries.

Produced by Nottingham University's Division of Primary Care the figures show the rate of infections recorded in GPs' surgeries across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. This is the QSurveillance project - which is a unique record of cases registered by GPs across England and Northern Ireland.

What it shows are rates of influenza recorded by GPs across the country - of which the major strain this year is swine flu. As bad as it is, it is not yet as serious as the pandemic of 2009 - in which the Office for National Statistics records that 149 people died directly of the disease (which excludes those who had it but died of pneumonia, say).

Of course, this doesn't cover people who don't go to see their GP - but it does provide a good indication of the seriousness of the outbreak.

Unfortunately Scotland and Wales have not updated their local health board data since the last outbreak. When - and if - they do, we will update this post, so make sure you follow us here - and we will also update the England figures every week while this outbreak lasts.

flu-like symptoms - don't know if it was flu or not, or how long he was sick before going to the hospital.

http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/8 ... poisoning/

A MUCH-LOVED tattoo artist who lost his battle for life just hours after being admitted to hospital suffering from flu-like symptoms died from an infection which led to blood poisoning, a post mortem has shown.

Kelly Maguire, 38, from the Winton area of Bournemouth, had run Kelly’s Tattoos in Charminster for more than seven years.

The father-of-one was taken to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital by ambulance on New Year’s Eve. But his condition deteriorated and his devastated family gave permission for his life support system to be switched off the next morning.
