"Parents also need to ensure children with ILI remain at home while trainers at National Service (NS) camps should isolate the affected trainees.

"If it is absolutely necessary to go out, they should wear surgical masks and practise good hygiene to avoid infecting other people," he said in a statement.
Dr Mohd Ismail said until 5.30pm yesterday, 41 new H1N1 cases were reported, bringing the total to 14,033.

He said 655 ILI cases were still being treated nationwide, of which 14.5 per cent or 95 cases were confirmed positive for Influenza A (H1N1).

PUTRAJAYA: Health authorities recorded 34 new cases of Influenza A (H1N1) over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of people to have been infected with the deadly flu to 14,067 since the pandemic broke last year.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said a total of 671 patients were currently being treated in hospitals for Influenza-like illness (ILI) of which 12 were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
.....
He also said that two ILI cluster cases were reported in Selangor and Terengganu, adding two members of a family in Section BS 8 in Bukit Sentosa, Selangor and eight students from Kolej Islam Teknologi in Terengganu were down with ILI.

Maeanwhile, in Petaling Jaya, National Services Department director-general Datuk Abdul Hadi Awang Kechil said that cleanliness measures at all national service camps have been stepped up to prevent influenza-like illnesses and the spread of the A(H1N1) virus.

He said precautionary measures were being taken although the ILI cases at camps were not at an alarming rate.

“We have advised our trainees to take extra care by practising good hygiene and cleanliness measures.

“The camps are also strictly adhering to Health Ministry guidelines, There are only spot ILI cases at the camps but we are not taking any chances,” he said Monday.

Abdul Hadi said there was no risk of camps being closed down, compared to last year where several camps had to be shut down by state health departments due to signs of influenza A (H1N1) infection.

Spot ILI cases were detected at several camps after trainees returned from a five day leave about a week ago, he said.

This article did make me grin, especially as H1N1 is currently endemic in Malaysia

Quote:
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians going abroad are advised to take all the necessary precautions against influenza A (H1N1).

This is because some 214 countries have reported confirmed cases of H1N1, with 18,001 deaths reported between April last year and May 2.

The World Health Organisation said it was actively monitoring the progress of the pandemic through consultations with its regional offices and member countries.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said Malaysians going overseas should get vaccinated, not only against H1N1, but also seasonal flu viruses.

In a related development, he said four people from the state Drainage and Irrigation Department quarters in Tekek, Rompin, had been isolated after they were confirmed positive.

"Fifty-nine others who came into contact with them have been placed under observation," he added.

Dr Ismail also said 16 pre-schoolers from Tadika Anak Riang in Puchong Jaya had been treated for influenza-like-illness (ILI).

Throat swab samples showed six of the pre-schoolers tested positive for H1N1.

"Two of the children have been admitted to a private hospital while the rest are under quarantine at home."

Twelve National Service trainees were also treated for ILI and they had been isolated from their batch at the Pusat Latihan Khidmat Negara in Banting.

As of 5.30pm on Monday, 71 people have been confirmed positive for H1N1, bringing the total number of cases to 14,138 since May last year.

KUALA LUMPUR: Three National Service trainees have been hospitalised while 32 others from two camps in Kedah and Pahang are isolated for suspected influenza A (H1N1).

The outbreak at PLKN Sg Limau, Baling, and PLKN Hijrah, Penor in Kuantan yesterday has resulted in 782 trainees in both camps being monitored for symptoms of the disease.

The three trainees, from the NS camp in Kedah, are recovering after being treated with anti-viral drugs.

Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said throat swab samples had been taken from all 35 sick trainees and the health authorities were awaiting laboratory results to ascertain if they had H1N1.

"While waiting for the results, doctors have treated them for symptoms and have ordered that they be isolated from other trainees."

Sixteen students from three schools in Terengganu, Penang and Malacca were also treated as outpatients in hospitals for suspected H1N1 yesterday.

Three pupils were of SMK Mak Lagam, Kemaman, nine of SJK (C) Kai Chee, Sg Dua, Seberang Prai Utara and four students of SM Teknik Jasin, Malacca.

Dr Ismail said they were treated as outpatients and had been sent back to be quarantined in their houses until they fully recover.

He reminded all training centres to isolate quickly all those who showed symptoms of the disease.

Dr Ismail also said a lot of Influenza-like Illness (ILI) cluster cases were reported in schools, training centres and workplaces.

"The virus is not only spreading actively in Malaysia but worldwide. Malaysians must be careful, especially when they are in public places and take precautions against being infected. People in high-risk groups must take extra precautions as they can suffer complications and death if they do not get medical help on the very onset of the symptoms."

He said those with fever, cough, cold and sore throat should wear face masks if they needed to go to public places.

"People must wash their hands frequently with soap and water, use hand sanitisers, eat a balanced diet, drink plenty of water, exercise and have enough sleep to keep fit and prevent H1N1 infection," he added.
