this was mentioned in another post, but I think it should have its
own thread.

There were 19 deaths from P+I in El Paso in week 14,
which is unusual.
El Paso is just over the border from Juarez in Mexico,
where there had been recent H1-deaths with press coverage.

Actually, it is the latest report of 19 deaths that causes the concern. The Chihuahua H1N1 has one recent change, K149N, which is only in 2011 isolates, inclding 5 in the United States and one in Texas. In Chihuahua, the deaths are recent and represent a jump very late in the flu season. The El Paso numbers are showing a similar jump in the latest week, including younger cases.

Hm, OK, got that.

I find this very interesting, but it's like watching a slow motion train crash, all the while noting the days and nights are a just that little bit colder down here....

FWIW, got a flu shot today (the triple one). Hell, I thought, just maybe it might protect me from Type B which was active here last winter. The other two bits are probably next to useless.

Prior to the latest report, the highest number of weekly P&I deaths in El Paso in the past 15 years was 20 in week 5 in 2000
