Health care workers are a major problem because either they were not vaccinated or they provide additional evidence that the vaccine against California/7/2009 doesn't work against the 2011 sub-clade,, which could lead to serious staffing problems.

From my work some years ago on an outbreak of H5N1, there were four horsemen of the apocalypse:

1. Clusters. Tick.

2. Increased pneumonia/fatal cases. Tick.

3. Health workers succumbing to the virus. Tick.

Hm, can't remember the fourth.

I suppose the counter "what me worry" argument is that we kinda saw this in Ukraine in late 2009, and nothing much (so far) came of it (unless you were a Ukrainian).

Rumor has it that Venezuela sequences match Mexico and also have D225N.

Venezuela's health minister says the number of patients being treated for swine flu has risen to 923 in the country.

Health Minister Eugenia Sader says eight people have died since an initial spate of cases were reported in mid-March.

Sader told state television on Wednesday that despite the growing number of cases, "the situation is totally and absolutely controlled." She says the number of new cases has been declining in recent days.

Venezuelan officials attributed dozens of deaths to swine flu in 2009.
