It took a hammering last flu season and I'd bet it hasn't been stocked up since.

You are correct. Last season there was almost a Tamiflu shortage. The lack of liquid Tamiflu for children was widely publicized, but there was also a shortage of adult Tamiflu and it was an issue EARLY in the fall. I was PCR confirmed, as was my daughter (in early October, 2009) and had to fight to get a Tamiflu script even after when had both started the same script. I heard all (DIRECT from my MD) of the CDC talking points on Tamiflu not attacking the virus (BLANTANTLY FALSE), just reducing length of illness for one day, not seeing a Dr is it were seasonal flu, etc. I heard of MANY who could not get Tamiflu even though they were obviously H1N1 infected (the labs said to NOT send samples because over 70% were confirmed). A subsequent serological survey of H1N1 antibody showed that almost 50% of school age children in Pittsburgh had been infected. H1N1 had already been lab confirmed at my daughter's school and the school nurse was send home 5 kids per hour (and the week after our infection almost ALL of the students at the middle school less than a mile from the Drs office were infected with H1N1).

Thus, when H1N1 was RAMPANT and we were OBVIOUSLY H1N1 infected, the Dr REFUSED to write a script for Tamiflu (although eventually we all did get a perscription, which was the EXCEPTION, not the rule).

The UK will hold its stockpile for the most severe cases and it is LIKELY that their stockpile was greatly reduced last season and NOT replenished.

The good news is that you are both wrong and the UK has already started to dig into the pandemic stockpile. I will try to find some exact numbers of the stockpile when i get time. The UK ordered 10 million courses of Relenza last year so they would have heaps of that as mostly Tamiflu was dispatched during ther pandemic.

From 23/12/2010

''Two batches of antivirals from the national stockpile have been transferred to manufacturers for onward supply to wholesalers and pharmacies (see Panel), and a further release of oseltamivir is likely to go ahead shortly, Dr Ridge said''

''Antivirals transferred so far
A total of 36,960 packs of oseltamivir capsules 75mg, 12,228 packs of oseltamivir capsules 45mg and 30mg, 7,360 bottles of oseltamivir suspension and 1,680 packs of zanamivir have been transferred from the national stockpile to manufacturers for onward supply.''

Those are SMALL numbers and for the more serious cases. Antivirals are available, but will be released slowly.

If you are a severe or serious case its highly unlikely Tamiflu or Relenza will work for you. Its too late by then. It may be better than nothing but why even get to this serious stage ??

LOL Niman. That's why we love you. Always a comeback.

The reality is that the antivirals will be used in the more serious cases (and resistance will become a MAJOR issue).

Poster claimimg to be cousin on one of the fatal cases claims she had lupus as underlying condition

This one was my cousin.
I went to the funeral yesterday.

It doesn't however mention that she also had a severe and rare form of lupus,
and had been very ill for some time.

A 42-year-old woman who was suffering from swine flu has died in hospital in south Manchester.

The woman was admitted to Wythenshawe Hospital with severe flu symptoms and died on Thursday.

A University Hospital of South Manchester (UHSM) NHS Trust spokeswoman said it was not known if the patient had underlying health conditions.

Nationally, 27 people with flu have died so far this winter, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has said.

The agency's weekly report, released on Thursday, said 24 had swine flu and nine of them were children.

The death of the woman, from Wythenshawe, is not thought to be included in the latest figures.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish the cause of her death, the spokeswoman added.

The Health Protection Agency is continuing to urge pregnant women, the over 65s and people with health conditions to get the flu vaccination.

Figures released earlier this week showed the GP consultation rate for all flu had more than doubled in the past seven days to 87.1 per 100,000 in England and Wales.

additional info:

Thanks.

I know somebody who works at Wythenshawe hospital and they said they
had 27 cases of swine flu just in that hospital... this was one day last week.
The jab was being offered out to all staff.... non-compulsory though.

Wow! They transferred about 60k doses from their "huge" stockpile. That should sort out the Midlands and Scotland at least.

That was the funniest and scariest thing I have read for a while. These guys are whackos and you are playing with them. I doubt you will get much rational debate but it's sure entertaining. What's the end purpose or your discussions with these crazies.
