We're just enjoying the tail end of our summer and the beaches are still crowded. Looks like autumn will be interesting.

From memory, you guys had a bit of summer spike and then we copped infections in Victoria in the south from travellers returning from the US and it took off in our mild winter. I wonder if we'll cop our next wave before you this time, or vice versa?

Here is a short 2009 epidemiological reminder. Australia first pH1N1 peak occurred much in the standard seasonal timing:

In this Queensland hospitalizations graphic, flu season started in week 26 and lasting some 12 weeks.
It is roughly a 26 week delayed version of USA seasonal 2008/09 wave.
However, some health autorities stated last January that 2010 Australian flu season could potentially start at an earlier time:

Swine flu looms with the return to school
The Australian - January 16th 2010
HEALTH experts are warning that Australians can expect a second wave of swine flu, possibly as early as
the beginning of the school year just a fortnight away. With a new report finding Australia's public health response failed to prevent
the H1N1 pandemic last year -- and that mass casualties and a collapse of the health system would have
resulted had it not been a benign strain -- the Australian Medical Association has said it is likely swine flu
will strike again. … …

Australia location excepted, it’s a bit off topic since thread focus is genetics [see preceding travelogs and comments].
