French health officials say two people diagnosed with a slightly mutated swine flu virus that also has been found in other countries have died.

The Institute for Health Oversight said Friday that the two people, who have not been identified, had been hospitalized in different cities and died after being diagnosed with the variant swine flu.

Last week, the World Health Organization said it is investigating samples of variant swine flu linked to two deaths and one severe case in Norway, but that so far the significance of the mutation is unclear.

WHO says the same mutation has been found in both fatal and mild cases elsewhere, including in Brazil, China, Japan, Mexico, Ukraine, and the United States.

Now the WHO failure to address D225G in Ukraine has produced a new nonsense term, "slightly mutated". Like H274Y, D225G is produce by a single nucleotide change, which has rather profound effects. The virus with D225G can expand its tropism to cells with alpha 2,3 receptors and can evade the vaccine. There is NOTHING slight about this change. It is rather profound.

What we see beginning to happen, and I predict will increase..... is confusion. It's going to lead us back full circle to all the nonsense that occurred inthe early days of Ukraine. We DO HAVE co-circulating "orginal H1N1" & "D225G H1N1" & "Tamiflu Resistant H1N1" - sometimes in the same individual even.

And we have the WHO/CDC slowly destroying their credibility with all of the conflicting statements, and increasing evidence of flat out hiding data, and lying.

You know, all this talk about officials wanting to reduce panic is ALMOST amusing, because what the WHO/CDC is setting the table for is an absolute banquet of confusion, and ultimately panic.

Exactly right. It is a 1918 re-run.

Flus mutate so fast, Dr. Fukuda cautioned, that announcing each change is “like reporting changes in the weather.”

By far one of the most haughty, arrogant and irresponsible statements so far this pandemic.

Actually, the weatherman DOES REPORT the weather everyday...sad they do not trust the population to respond in a mature manner. Thank you Dr. Niman...for telling us the truth, you're a hero!

Your earlier comment about the non-constructive aspect of "board wars" is related to Niman's small but ferocious contingent of followers (virtually none of whom are capable of understanding the science but at least one, a lawyer, has invested in his company). They believe on the basis of his contrarianism and oracular (and usually scientifically incomprehensible) style he must be a Great Man. The resulting invective and lack of collegiality has resulted in the demise of some sites as it underwent pro and anti-Niman binary fission or the outright banning of some commenters, including Niman.

... It is immensely destructive and I am trying to minimize even my discussion of it here by segregating it in a comment thread that few will read because of its length. No one else can comment on Niman's site, so this is a symmetrical relationship in his case. I'm doing this here, now, because you asked and others might also be wondering.

Aside from the Niman issue (and your link was to a Niman-promoting post),

I normally have respect for Revere but being called a "ferocious follower" who can't understand science is a bit much. Niman was one of the most prolific contributors to FT for 3 years before its founder banned him a few months (mainly because of this Rhiza site being set up) so it seems he co-existed fine. And as for "No one else can comment on Niman's site." is he suggesting that opinion contrary to Dr Niman is not allowed here? Because if so then that's nonsense.

And I see Revere has to take a pot shot at the PF11 site while he's at it. I'm sorry Revere but I see you as the destructive party here.

You really have to know the history. Revere used to tell me to set up a site so others can comment, yet I have always posted on one site or another, which allows for comments from anyone (and I have never been a moderator on any of the sites). Now he is saying he can't post here, without any basis (and fails to acknowledge that he has banned me from posting at his site and his associates, other MDs, have banned me from posting at FluWiki).
