Liverpool, England, United Kingdom (AHN) - Half of the people who died from swine flu in the United Kingdom in 2009 were healthy before they contracted the illness, according to a new study.

University of Liverpool researchers said their findings support recommendations made by the British government that vaccinations should be given to children under 5 years old, pregnant women and people with long-term respiratory problems.

The researchers also recommended swine flu vaccinations for people with moderate asthma.

The researchers said that during the 2009 swine flu pandemic, hospital admissions were highest in children under five and pregnant women.

According to the study, vaccinating pregnant women may also protect their unborn children
