I have not seen that number in any other source. Notice the "!*" in the "children have died" sentence.

Can you please show the articles which speak about 70-100 fatalities. I haven't been able to find any excluding the translation errors.
This looks a lot like what happened in Argentina at the beginning of the first wave. Also I would ignore the army hospitals etc. Mainly because they are only a backup and it was just announced that at this time there is no need for them.

Ternopil oblast

As the number of sick persons increases, the authorities describe the situation as rather serious, says Ternopil oblast chief medical officer Bohdan Onyskiv.

“In all, 262 patients are treated in hospitals, of these 16 in serious condition. !* children have died in rural areas and 70 in Ternopil,” he says.

Onyskiv confirmed that they died from viral pneumonia
http://zik.com.ua/en/news/2009/10/29/202374

My interpretation of the above is that 70 died in the city of Ternopil, with additional deaths in the rural areas of the Ternopil province. In addition to these deaths, there were clusters of 2-5 deaths in multiple regions in western Ukraine, but not in Ternopil (which is also confirmed by the govenment data from yesterday, which only had 12 of 30 deaths in Ternopil).

Thus, it is pretty easy to come up with 100 deaths in western Ukraine. I would assume that ALL recent viral pnuemonia deaths in western Ukraine are from H1N1, and there are probably more throughout the country (and neighboring countries), which have not been diagnosed/reported.

Russia has offered Ukraine to help handle the A/H1N1 flu situation, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said on with the reference to a telephone conversation between Foreign Ministers Pyotr Poroshenko and Sergei Lavrov.

“The ministers said that the two health ministries would coordinate the work,” the ministry said.

Also, Poroshenko and Lavrov noted new dynamics in the bilateral relations. “The Ukrainian side confirmed its readiness for the fifth meeting of the Ukraine-Russia Interstate Commission’s Economic Cooperation Committee due in Yalta on November 19,” the ministry said.

“Ukraine is ready for consultations between deputy foreign ministers in early December,” the ministry said.

Poroshenko and Lavrov coordinated the schedule of consultations on the Russian Black Sea Fleet and the delimitation of the Azov and Black Seas and the Kerch Strait. “The sides highlighted the need to boost trade and economic cooperation, the participation of Ukrainian companies in the cleanup of aftereffects of the August 17 accident at the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydropower plant and the lift of restrictions on the supply of certain commodities,” the ministry said.

Poroshenko invited Lavrov to visit Ukraine.

This is somewhat worrying:

WHO says it's sending team to Ukraine to probe reports of serious H1N1 activity

(CP) – 31 minutes ago

GENEVA — The World Health Organization is sending a team of experts to Ukraine to look into reports of severe H1N1 disease there, a spokesperson for the global health agency said Friday.

Gregory Hartl said the team was being pulled together by the WHO's Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network, which goes by the acronym GOARN.

The team will travel early next week to the eastern European country, which has closed schools and banned public meetings in response to a spike in cases of acute respiratory illness believed to be H1N1.

"This is something that certainly needs investigating," Hartl said from Geneva.

He said the government of Ukraine is being forthcoming with information on the outbreak, which is said to centre on three regions in the western part of the country.

The country, which is in the midst of an election campaign, has reportedly imposed strict measures to slow the spread of the virus.

According to the BBC, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said there would also be restrictions on what she called non-urgent travel between different parts of Ukraine.

Reports on the number of deaths vary, some suggesting Tymoshenko had said only one person has died of the virus but her rival, President Viktor Yushchenko, has said 11 Ukrainians have died so far.

Yes, I agree that the WHO response team is a concern, and the media treatment, while factually correct, is VERY misleading. The government site shows 30 deaths as of yesterday and there is little doubt doubt that most or all died of H1N1, but is characterized as ONE or ELEVEN deaths, based on limited testing. In addition to the 30 listed by the government, media reports describe more cases at more locations.
The report above is internally inconsistant because WHO would not be sending a team to investigate ONE death or ELEVEN deaths (and I think that 30 deaths would be borderline with regard to the creation of an investigative team).

This is looking more and more like a "Houston" event.

Correct.

I was referring to the tracking of the space shuttle, Challenger.
