I will tell you though, I do know of at least one ship here that WAS in quarantine earlier in the year. We were told it was due to flu.
But it was before the vaccines were out.

Ok so far from my connections I have learned Point Loma got their vaccines in TODAY and personal as well as dependants are starting TODAY to get vaccinations at least in this area.

Still researching:

But it was before the vaccines were out.

That would be the USS Boxer. It came into port in early August after flu cases developed onboard in mid-July. The ship itself wasn't quarantined, just the sailors and marines onboard who had flu-like symptoms. Ott may have fabricated his "quarantine at sea" story out of the fact that the ship went to anchorage off Guam briefly, rather than pull into port there to resupply. The anchorage was only long enough to resupply the ship, less than a week, not 60 days. In each of the other ports the ship visited on the way home, asymptomatic sailors were allowed to disembark and re-embark for shore leave, including in Hawaii and San Diego. Hardly a so-called 60-day "quarantine at sea." The report you linked to said the following:
Quote:
"All sailors who departed the ships for leave in Hawaii were thermally screened for fever, and anyone with a temperature over 100 degrees was kept on the ship, Lockwood said."

The procedures used were pretty much the same ones being used at most ports back during that time period to screen for swine flu. Nothing exceptional. The other news links you posted say the ship made a planned stop at Camp Pendleton to disembark Marines on its way home, a fact that absolutely doesn't square with it being under a mandatory quarantine at sea. Furthermore, none of the credible news sources mention any deaths, certainly not deaths as noteworthy as the captain of the vessel or a chief petty officer.

Tru Ott seems to have taken this well-reported story of flu cases onboard the vessels of the Boxer Amphibious Group from a few months back and made it into a sensational and false story about supposed botched vaccine trials that allegedly just took place. As you correctly pointed out, these illnesses occurred well before there even WAS a vaccine to try out. They were part of the first wave of pandemic earlier this summer. As your last link states, the military hasn't even received their first shipments of H1N1 vaccine yet, so nothing here is adding up to support what Ott claims has occurred. No news reports squares with Ott's version of events, nor do the military's flu reports. In fact, numerous credible sources absolutely refute his version of events, and he's left having to explain how the ship can be photographed being worked on in port and its sailors can be making news headlines getting in trouble on shore leave when they're allegedly in an out-at-sea quarantine and deathly ill. Just to totally put this one to rest, I'm checking now to see if I can find any death notices in local newspapers for either the captain or the chief petty officer, since Ott claims they're dead, or any evidence they're still alive and well. I'm betting on the latter.
