Hong Kong's first H5N6 virus in wild birds tested positive

  Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) said today (April 16), said April 9 in Hung Shui Kiu, Yuen Long, Hong Yuan Road site seized the peregrine corpse after a number of tests, confirmed to be H5N6 virus tested positive.   This is the first test of H5N6 virus in wild birds, the AFCD will closely monitor the situation.   AFCD will continue to inspect poultry farms, to ensure that proper measures against avian influenza.   He reminded the public to observe good personal  Health, avoid contact with wild birds or live poultry. He said: "The public must immediately wash their hands after contact with birds, to keep clean."

Epidemiological comments An intensive surveillance system is in place for all poultry farms, poultry markets, and pet bird shops in Hong Kong. The H5N6 infected wild bird was detected in our ongoing surveillance program on wild birds. No spread of disease was evident. The date of end of the outbreak is the same as the date the bird was found (10 April 2015).
