AMMAN, Dec 25 (KUNA) -- The Jordanian Ministry of Health announced Thursday evening a new case tested positive for the Coronavirus infection.
The new case, involving an Arab national, brought the total number of cases since disease was first discovered in the Kingdom in 2012 to 12, including six fatalities, said Director of the Ministry's Healthcare Department Dr. Bashir Al-Qasir.
The patient is receiving medication in a private hospital, Dr. Al-Qasir said in a press release, describing the patient's health condition as stable.
He added that the heath authorities quarantined the patient and those who have been in contact him for the past two weeks as a precautionary measure. (end) ab.mb

AMMAN, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- Jordan confirmed on Thursday a new case of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) coronavirus infection that has been spreading throughout the region, the state-run Petra news agency said.

The country's health ministry said a non-Jordanian man in his 70s tested positive for the deadly virus.

This number of MERS infection cases thus rises to 12 in Jordan since 2012 and six of them died.

The MERS outbreak has caused panic throughout the region, prompting many governments to launch awareness campaigns and precautionary measures in an effort to prevent the spread of the virus.

Hundreds of infections have been reported in the region, especially in Saudi Arabia.
