Four (4) additional outbreaks were confirmed since the previous report. All outbreaks are located in the same small area in the province of British Columbia. Depopulation of all infected premises is underway, with appropriate cleaning and disinfection, under the supervision of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). The CFIA National Center for Foreign Animal Disease confirms that the novel H5N2 virus detected in BC contains 5 of 8 gene segments from highly pathogenic Eurasian H5N8 virus including the H5 gene and 3 of 8 segments from typical North American viruses including the N2 gene (wild bird origin).

A ninth farm in the Fraser Valley has been infected with the avian flu.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says results have come back saying another farm, this one in Abbotsford, has shown positive results of the H5N2 strain.

So far, more than 180-thousand chicken and turkey farms are set to be euthanized, or have been already.

Avian flu confirmed in ninth barn in B.C. Fraser Valley; 7,000 more birds affected
The Canadian PressBy The Canadian Press | The Canadian Press – 1 hour 37 minutes ago

VANCOUVER - Federal officials say avian influenza has been detected in a ninth poultry barn in British Columbia's Fraser Valley.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the virus was confirmed on Thursday at an Abbotsford farm and it affects about 7,000 chickens.
That means some 180,800 chickens and turkeys are now either dead or set to be euthanized.
The outbreak began last week, when poultry at two farms in the Fraser Valley tested positive for the H5N2 strain of the disease.
Earlier this week, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced a control zone covering the southern half of B.C., where restrictions have been placed on the movement of poultry.
Eight countries have placed restrictions on B.C. poultry and poultry products.
On Wednesday Singapore joined the list of the United States, Mexico, South Africa, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and South Korea.
