Learning about the significance of D225G has caused me to rethink the role of E627K. My speculation: http://diaryofafluyear.blogspot.com/2009/11/rethinking-previous-post.html

There are more changes and more genes. I haven't had a chance to go through them and the Ukraine specific change (in all samples from Ukraine), may also be significant.

Thank you Dr. Niman, I know you will keep us updated when you get a chance to sift thru everything.

I just did a quick protein check on one of the lung isolates. The only HA change is D225G.

Sorry, I am not a virologist and just a layman. Is that better than you thought or worse? Maybe I just need to watch this post for the people that can ask the questions properly.

Just need to know If I have to get a bunker

D225G is "in play". It is on multiple H1N1 backgrounds in Brazil, Australia, China, Spain, and has been in the US earlier (and likely here now).

It was also on 1918 and 1919 isolates (as well as earlier swine isolates).

Swine jumps to human create major problems.

In other words (I think), this change is bad enough by itself. It seems to lead to increased infection of the lungs) but other potentially bad changes are not present in these samples. I probably decreases the likelihood negating the advantage of vaccination or previous infection versus having multiple changes in the HA segment.

Do we know the outcomes of these cases? In other words, the number of deaths involving this change versus the number of deaths with other polymorphisms?
