Barack Obama’s chief adviser on drug issues fainted twice in the space of four hours because he had the flu.

Gil Kerlikowske, 61, the White House’s drug policy director, was taken to hospital at 2pm on Tuesday after fainting while speaking to Harvard University law students.

But after being released a few hours later, the U.S. President’s drugs czar fainted again at about 6pm at Boston Airport before his flight left back to Washington D.C.
