You beat me to it!

I was wondering if the 10 year-old was one of those three deposited from Hunan province. I couldn't find any patient information. A/Hunan Kaifu/SWL4142/2009(H1N1) was actually collected on the 21st.

I've spend the last hour reading article from that same site. Not sure if it's a Chinese version of http://www.theflucase.com but if there is any credibility to any of it, China is in the midst of a sh*t storm.

You might be right. Kaifu does have a receptor binding domain chnage S188N, but so do several isolates in the US

Any idea why the two Brownsville39H & 39OS are same collection date and both aged 7? Are these two different samples from the same patient? Twins?

The link Dr. Niman posted is in a foreign language. Also, who knows about this story. Too bad the child died. However, we know really nothing by the story that anyone posted.

Show some absolute proof in English that we can actually decipher from.

Every country has had one of these deaths or more and it is right here in our own backyard, Dr Niman.

Some posters who put up wackdoodle (in English) under "news" and tell posters that they or others have seasonal flu (when there is no seasonal flu), have trouble distinguishing fact from fiction in any language, and virtual all of their posts should be read with EXTREME caution.

China's heath ministry says the H1N1 strain of flu is rapidly spreading into China's vast countryside.

It's also warned there could be a spike in cases around the Lunar New Year period when millions head back to their home towns.

China has reported more than 600 deaths to date from swine flu.

The ministry says outbreaks in big cities and in schools have seen an obvious decline, but the virus continues to spread into villages and communities.

It says the government is rushing to send medical equipment such as respirators to 17 provinces to help deal with severe cases.

Disclaimer: This post is intended to refute the above statement, not it's author. It is not intended to be a statement challenging the character or valid opinion of the author.

I think it is generally agreed that very little is "absolute", especially in the sciences and health care, death and taxes not withstanding. If we only posted "absolute" information, this would be a really quiet forum.

To imply that a news article is not legitimate simply because it is in a language other then English, could be considered an ad hominem fallacy. In a following post, I was quite clear to advise the reader that I was unaware of the validity of the news source, just as I would question the validity of numerous English "news" sources. That said, even a well spun story based loosely on facts can still be enlightening, as long as one is able to separate the wheat from the chaff.

This is an international forum. I don't feel that just because something is happening in one persons "backyard" it make other peoples "backyards" any less significant, relevant or newsworthy.
