EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE - SITUATION REPORT (Sit-Rep) – 22August, 2014
Main highlights
 For the 21st August 2014, a total of 17new samples were received and analysed by the Kailahun Laboratory: Kailahun
(4), Tonkolili (8),Bo (2) and Western Area (3).Nine (9) of these samples are positive from Kailahun (1), Tonkolili (6),Bo
(1) and Western Area (1).Eight (8) of the remaining samples are negative from Kailahun (3),Tonkolili (2),Bo (1) and
Western Area (2).(see table 1)
 The cumulative number of Laboratory confirmedcasesare823whiles confirmed death is329with a Case Fatality Rate
(CFR) based on confirmed cases of 40.0%.
 Seventy-eight (78) patients are currently admitted at the Kenema & Kailahun Isolation Unitwithcumulative
dischargesof236
 Many samples have been logged in awaiting to be analysed by the CDC Lab. team
 The CDC Lab. team is still setting up their Laboratory equipment. Testing will hopefully commence on Saturday,
August 23, 2014
 Data cleaning is on-going, therefore the figures in table 1 will keep on changing as the cleaning continues

Main highlights
 For the 22nd August 2014, a total of 84new samples were received and analysed by the Kailahun and Kenema
Laboratory: Kailahun (7), Kenema (32),Kono(1),Bombali(7),Tonkolili (2),Port Loko(14),Pujehun(1),Bo (6),Moyamba(2),
and Western Area (12).Fifty-six (56) of these samples are positive while 27 are negative with 1 pending Lab result as
shown in table 1 below.
 Two (2) of the 6 previous Lab pending results are positive from Kenema(1) and Port Loko (1) while the rest are
negative
 The cumulative number of Laboratory confirmedcasesare881whiles confirmed death is333with a Case Fatality Rate
(CFR) based on confirmed cases of 37.8.0%.
 Forty-one (41) patients are currently admitted at the Kenema Isolation Unitwithno report received from the Kailahun
Isolation unit. Cumulative dischargeis still 236
 The CDC Laboratory is now up and running in Kenema

Main highlights
 For the 25th August 2014, a total of 32 new samples were received and analysed by the CDC KenemaLaboratory:
Kenema (9), Bombali (4), Tonkolili (4), Port Loko (5), Pujehun (2) and Western Area (8). Twenty (20) of these samples
are positive, 7 are negative while 5 suspected cases have been recommended for a second drawbase on their
symptoms onset.(See table 1)
 A total of 4 samples were received and analysed by NICD MLU Lakka, Freetown Laboratory. 1 positive and 3
Negative. Data will be added to the current data.
 The cumulative number of Laboratory confirmed cases are 955 whiles confirmed death is 355 with a Case Fatality
Rate (CFR) based on confirmed cases of 37.2%.
 Fifty-eight (58) patients are currently admitted at the Kenema Isolation Unit with no report received from the Kailahun
Lab &Isolation unit. Cumulative discharge is still 244
 DMOs, DSOs & clinicians are reminded to read the comment on the daily Laboratory result for your action

 For the 26th August 2014, a total of 27new samples were received and analysed by the CDC Kenema & South African
NICD Western Area Laboratory: Kailahun (12), Kenema (6)and Western Area (9). Six (6) of these samples are
positive, 20 are negative while 1 suspected case has been recommended for a second test by the South African NICD
Lab for Western Area.(See table 1).Western Area figures are cumulative of 25 - 26 Aug 14.
 The cumulative number of Laboratory confirmed cases are 961 whiles confirmed death is 363 with a Case Fatality
Rate (CFR) based on confirmed cases of 37.8%.

EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE - SITUATION REPORT (Sit-Rep) – 28August, 2014
Main highlights
 For the 27th August 2014, a total of 39 new samples were received and analysed by the CDC Kenema& South African
NICD MLU Western Area Laboratory: Kailahun (11), Kenema (6), Bombali (4), Tonkolili (3), Moyamba (1)and Western
Area (14). Twenty-seven (27) of these samples are positive, 9 are negativewhile 3suspected caseshave been
recommended for a second test base on their symptoms onset.(See table 1)
 The cumulative number of Laboratory confirmed cases are 988 whiles confirmed death is372with a Case Fatality Rate
(CFR) based on confirmed cases of 37.7%.
 Sixty-five (65) patients are currently admitted at the Kenema Isolation Unitwithno report received from the Kailahun
Isolation unit. Cumulative dischargeis still244
 CDC Kenema Laboratory is still analysing Kailahun samples
 DMOs, DSOs & clinicians are reminded to read the comment on the daily Laboratory result for your action
 Data cleaning is on-going, therefore the figures in table 1 will keep on changing as the cleaning continues
