According to Angolan Health minister, José Van-Dúnem, who was presenting the usual report on the situation of the disease in the country, although there are no new cases, the surveillance and awareness campaigns continue at the airports of Luanda, Huíla, Benguela and Cabinda, and at Santa Clara border post, southern Cunene province.

José Van-Dúnem said the measure covers the posts in order for ships crews to learn about the H1N1 flu situation.

Meanwhile, 2,478 forms of sanitary control were cleared over the last 15 days, without any suspect case. Of that number, 1,258 were women, mostly Angolans who entered the country from Portugal and Brazil.

Health sector holds H1N1 flu test along border

Ondjiva – The sanitary authorities of the southern Cunene province is holding since 18 October research tests of H1N1 flu in Santa-Clara district, a region bordering with Namibia, after recording over 1.792 suspicious cases of the virus in that neighbouring country.

The test is being held together with the National Epidemiological Surveillance and Emergencies of the Ministry of Health.

This was said to Angop on Sunday by the head of the public health in Cunene province, Ana Dionísio.

Ana Dionísio said that after the Namibian authorities have recorded over 1000 suspicious cases of the disease, the Angolan Ministry of Health decided to reinforce the sanitary surveillance measures in the province by testing the citizens that enter the country.

Ana Dionísio appealed the population to comply with preventive measures, having into account that it is an infectious disease and contact the nearest sanitary units for the duly treatment in case of recording symptoms such as cough, fever, headache, shudders and muscle pain.

H1N1 flu is a disease caused by the influenza virus that attacks the respiratory system, whose symptoms are similar to fevers, cough, pain in throat, headache, pain in body, shudder, tiresome and sometimes diarrhoea and vomits.

Population urged to watch out H1N1 flu signs - Health Ministry

Luanda – The Ministry of Health appealed on Tuesday in Luanda the population to adopt preventive measures against H1N1 flu, in accordance with the re-emergence of new cases recorded in the neighbouring country of Namibia.

According to a press note released to Angop on Tuesday, the people should prevent the flu by washing hands with soap or disinfect them with alcohol, after having any contact or activity.

“By coughing, sneezing, one should cover the nose and mouth with a handkerchief or paper, as well as inform the local sanitary authorities of suspicious cases of H1N1 flu”, reads the document.

The Ministry of Health considers as important that people should be attentive to quick mobility of he population among bordering countries, as the virus that causes H1N1 flu has a high transmission capacity.
