CA latest report is here

It goes through week 33. A new report through week 34 should have come out this week. It has been delayed. My guess is that when it comes out, there will be 2 more examples of Tamiflu resistance in CA because it is FIT and circulating (see correction below).

A 37-year-old Garland resident has died from the swine flu, becoming the second death in Dallas County from the virus, local health officials said today.

The man, who died Aug. 29, had underlying health issues, said Dallas County and city of Garland health officials.

Health officials also said they have confirmed Dallas County’s first case of the swine flu resisting the anti-viral drug Tamiflu. Only seven cases of Tamiflu resistance have been reported in the U.S.

Dallas County’s first death associated with swine flu, also known as the H1N1 virus, was reported last week, when a 52-year-old woman, also with underlying medical issues, died.

So far, 34 people in Texas have died from the swine flu since the new bug was identified last spring.

Since the above quote doesn't say the Dallas case is one of the first seven cases in the US, I believe this is the 10th case, which have been reported in the following order.

2 Seattle -immunosuppressed patients - Tamiflu treated
2 North Carolina -summer campers - Prophylactic Tamiflu
1 Northern California - hospitalized patient without reported Tamiflu (still under investigation)
2 Texas unidentified Tamiflu exposure
2 CA, NY, or WI - CA most likely - unidentified Tamiflu exposure
1 Dallas - Tamiflu exposure unknown

Correction:
Week 34 report indicates the two most recently reported resistance cases had exposure to Tamiflu.

Since the quote also doesn't say the Dallas case is the 8th case, I am again leaning towards it beeing one of the 2 cases announced by Texas in the week 32 report.

Dallas County is reporting a second Swine Flu death, and one of the first "Tamiflu" resistant cases in the U.S. KERA's BJ Austin reports.

A 37 year old man is the second H1N1, or swine flu, death in Dallas County. Medical Director Dr. John Carlo says the patient had serious underlying medical conditions, as did the 52 year old woman who died a week earlier. Dr. Carlo says emergency room visits for flu are rising.

Carlo: All flu tests have really come back positive for H1N1. So, right now the predominant strain of flu, when it's diagnosed as flu, is H1N1.

Dallas County is reporting one of the SEVEN Tamiflu-resistant cases of swine flu in the U.S. Dr. Carlo says that resistance to the normally effective anti-viral treatment is being watched very closely by the medical community.

The above post confirms that the Dallas County case was one of the two reported by TX in their week 32 report.

Thus, the total reported to date in the US is 9.

Swiss pharmaceutical giant Roche Holding AG said Monday that it has had reports of 13 cases of pandemic swine flu becoming resistant to Tamiflu, which it calls a very low percentage.

There have been 9 reported cases in the US alone (2 in Seatle, 2 in NC, 1 in CA, 2 in TX, and the 2 most recent - in CA, NY, or WI). There have also been 3 in Japan, 3 in China (counting Hong Kong), and cases in Singapore, Thailand, Denmark, and Canada, so articially low counts create artificially low percentages.
