Most of the schools reporting ILI (influenza like illness) are actually seeing Novel A(H1n1) Pandemic Virus. Seasonal flu season has not yet hit in the Northern hemisphere. This fact can be confirmed by clicking on the link after each state that links to the weekly flu report for that state. Some facts to keep in mind are: Seasonal influenza and H1N1 are BOTH Influenza A (this means that if the test is positive for type A, it is most likely to be H1n1, and not seasonal flu like in other years), Seasonal influenza IS Tamiflu (oseltamivir) resistant while H1N1 IS NOT (a few scattered cases of resistance has been found. Keep this in mind when reading the weekly reports for distinguishing the unsubtyped A results. If the sample was not subtyped, and is showing NO resistance to tamiflu, then it IS H1N1).
