More Iranian Schools Closed to Contain Swine Flu
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran ordered the closure of another 68 schools in the country as a precaution against the spread of swine flu among Iranian students.
Following the infection of more than 15 percent of students to swine flu, the education organization of Kohgilouyeh and Boyerahmad closed 68 schools across the province.
The province's hospitals are seeing more patients in the emergency room than usual and hospitals have seen an increase in the number of patients presenting themselves with flu-like symptoms.
About 90 percent of the patients, however, had seasonal flu symptoms and did not need hospitalization.
Swine flu pandemic fears have also created a sever shortage of surgical face masks in the province, perhaps the most recognizable symbol of the H1N1 pandemic threat.
Very little is known about the benefits of wearing masks during a pandemic, and the best preventive steps are frequent hand-washing and covering one's mouth when coughing or sneezing.
