.- Health authorities warned today about a rapid spread of the virus H1N1 in human Colombia, Which left 29 dead and 507 infected since its inception four months ago.

The National Health Institute (INS) of Colombia admitted in a recent report that in the last week soared to the number of human influenza infections, registering 134 new cases and six other people killed because of illness.

BOGOTA (Reuters) - Colombian President Alvaro Uribe has contracted the H1N1 swine flu virus and is being treated by doctors while continuing to work from his residence, government spokesman Cesar Velasquez said on Sunday.

A popular conservative and Washington's key ally in South America, Uribe attended a summit with other regional leaders on Friday in Argentina. He started suffering from fever, headaches and backaches after the meeting, Velasquez said.

The leaders who met with the 57-year-old Uribe at the summit have been advised of his infection, Velasquez added.

Colombia has reported 621 confirmed cases of swine flu with 34 deaths, according to its social protection ministry.

BOGOTÁ (Sept. 16-09) La cifra de muertos por el virus AH1N1 en Colombia subió a 65, con el fallecimiento de 4 personas más en la última semana, y los casos de contagio llegan a 1.090, según el balance entregado ayer por Instituto Nacional de Salud (INS). Entre tanto, en E.U., la Administración de Alimentos y Medicamentos aprobó las solicitudes de 4 fabricantes de la vacuna de la nueva gripa y garantizó que se administrará de forma gratuita.
